There have many individuals and organizations who
have contributed their time and financial
resources to initiate and develop a wellhead
protection plan and related drinking water
programming activities in Vilnius. We hope this
is the beginning of a comprehensive groundwater
and drinking water strategy and that the lessons
learned here and in Siauliai will provide the
background for a national strategy in this
important field of environmental protection in
Lithuania.
In particular, the
Fogerty Program and the University
of Illinois have supported in part the
development of this site and other projects such
as an inventory of potential threats in wellhead
protection zones, a total organic carbon study in
water supply systems, and the organization of a
planning conference in Vilnius.
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University has
undertaken much of the work on an elaborate
project to inventory potential threats to well
fields in Vilnius. We would like to thank the
following individuals who spent their time
providing this vital information to further
wellhead protection and management efforts in the
city.
