Internet Program for Public Health Education, Information, & Training

Creating and maintaining systems of public health protection is of vital importance to Lithuania and its citizens.  Unfortunately, few people have access to information about public health information and the role of Lithuania’s State Public Health Center and 55 regional public health centers.  The Internet proves a unique tool for helping to meet the demands of public health protection by serving as a means for educating the public and increasing communication and collaboration among regional public health centers.  The project we propose will accomplish several tasks on this issue and develop an Internet presence for the Ministry of Health Protection in Lithuania, which currently has very little content on the Internet.  In particular, we will develop a web site for the State Public Health Center with information on: laws and regulations, news and events, how to contact health protection officials, locations of polyclinics, and other topics.  We will also develop web pages with basic information for interested regional public health centers.  Additionally, an online database of public health statistics in Lithuania will be created and we will provide training to staff at regional health centers so that they can realize some of the benefits of Internet as a tool.
